Cullman Regional Medical Center Implements Patient Placement Discharge Referral System

Patient Placement Systems automates patient referrals between hospitals and continuing care providers, creating an electronic network for post-acute care information

ALPHARETTA, Ga. March 27, 2007 -  Patient Placement Systems, a leading provider of patient referral solutions, today announced that Cullman Regional Medical Center is live on its Patient Placement Discharge Referral System . The system connects Cullman with continuing care providers in their region, automating the patient placement process.

Cullman Regional Medical Center, a 115-bed acute care hospital in Cullman, Alabama, deployed the Patient Placement Discharge Referral System after a 30-day implementation effort. The hospital's case management services department is now sending electronic referrals through the Patient Placement Referral Network to skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, DME providers, medical transport companies, and other continuing care providers in Alabama and Georgia.

"This innovative referral management technology has helped us dramatically reduce the need for phone calls or faxes. But more significantly, it has helped us to avoid discharge delays and reduced length of stay," said Jim Weidner, president and CEO, Cullman Regional Medical Center. "Our implementation was simple, and it also improved communication with our provider partners."

"We're pleased to add Cullman to our network of participating facilities in the region, said Eric Christ, president, Patient Placement Systems. "With the Patient Placement Discharge Referral System, the entire process of placing a patient into continuing care is automated and secure. And, because the application is delivered as a Web-based service, there's no software to install."

Patient Placement Systems digitally connects all the parties involved in the process of referring and transferring patients from one facility to another. The Patient Placement Referral Network improves information flow and communication so that each facility has the information needed at the right time. It links hospitals and providers using a secure, HIPAA-compliant Web-based application making the process of placing a patient from one facility to another more secure, effective, and timely.

Cullman joins Trinity Medical Center, Baptist Princeton Medical Center, and the Select Specialty Hospital of Birmingham as northeast Alabama hospitals using the Patient Placement Discharge Referral System.
